Network Storage Understanding The Benefits
Network Storage
The means of storing data using a network system is better known as network storage. The reason for data being stored has evolved drastically through the years. The way in which companies use technology has changed and the volume of the data increased along with this. The technology evolvement brought with it a more effective system of data safekeeping.
As the time and needs evolve, the mainframe and company server setups are not sufficient enough. Devices that are directly attached to host systems which come in the form of server computers are still the most commonly used to date.
There are also special devices that are connected directly to network media. They are assigned an IP address so that any person is able to access it from any computer. This is called a Network Attached Storage system. It is connected to a number of servers that run on various operating systems. This means the data is centralized along with the security and backup.
One of the major advantages of this system is the fact that one can easily expand it. If more space is needed to safe keep the data, then one simply adds another of these devices. This system also has an additional level of fault tolerance. This means if a server goes down, the data will still be available to those who are connected to the network.
These data systems contain more hard drives than other systems and they are all arranged into a logical redundant storage container. This is also referred to as RAID arrays. This kind of setup is mainly meant for keeping data backed up and accessible for work. It is not considered very practical to run software on it. It also does not run on a fully featured operating system.
The latest technology which is currently in the development phase is the ability to transport network storage from one area to the other and back. This will all be done over an IP system. This means data will readily be available from all corners of the world.
There are several major advantages to implementing this form of data access. It offers more reliable backup as one can control the backup schedules for all business data. It has improved utilization of how the data is stored and this also takes sharing to a higher level. Data recovery is simplified especially after virus intrusions. It is possible to restore an entire server by this means. Data protection is at very high levels so no intrusions are expected under normal conditions.
Archiving is done over a centralized platform and this reduces the continuous management of older files. It is compliant to governmental regulations and also complies with many, if not all of the information technology mandates. Server downtime is also not a concern any longer as the Network Storage disc based backup means that files are accessible from the additional source in case of any downtime.
